Utah Oil Sands Project Challenged Over Groundwater Pollution

Utah claims that mining for tar sands will not endanger water in their state, due to virtually no water at the site of their planned mine. It cites the fact that there is virtually no groundwater near said project-- unless you include water which is at great depths that is.

This decision by state regulators for the state of Utah came under fire by Living Rivers, which is a Moab-based environmental group. They dispute the state's use of an administrative type judge in a trial-like type hearing over the water usage permit which was issued by said state regulators.

This is very serious business folks. How would you feel about a corporation being given pretty much all access to your water? I would not be pleased in the slightest bit!

Regulators cite the fact that this planned mine is isolated from nearby springs and seeps. Additionally they cite a test well that went to 1,800 feet before hitting water. I would encourage everyone in the area to not give up on this. You may not realize this, but groundwater is becoming more of a strategic investment than it used to be. Forget for just a second that tar sands are a larger polluter of our environment for a second-- this is only added to a reason to not support them, until they are necessary. With today's advancements in wind as well as solar technology, there is absolutely NO REASON why anyone should be in favor of such tar sands projects!

If you are curious to read up on this project I suggest you visiting this site. It tells you even more of the facts that the oil companies have lied to us about for nearly a century!
