Apparently he destroyed hundreds of text messages he sent to his superior detailing the massive amounts of oil that was streaming out of the well. He was involved with a team at BP who was in charge of estimating how many barrels a day were coming out of the well. Their estimates were off by at least a ten fold amount; as they estimated 5,000 barrels a day and the government's estimates were more like 50,000!
And by the way, the official government estimates comes from data directly obtained from the wellhead it self.
It appears as if concerns raised by environmental advocates and the public were correct after all. It is a shame anytime a corporation lies to the public, but to lie in this instance is unforgivable in my book and there is no excuse for it-- shame on you BP and your employees.
For more on this story you can go to the original story I compiled my article from Deepwater Horizon's Engineer facing up to 20 years in prison for his part in the company's cover up about facts of the 2010 oil spill
And here's the rest of the story. This isn't the first time BP caused a disaster this big. Two years prior to the Deepwater Horizon disaster BP had an identical disaster happen in the Caspian Sea but was able to cover it up with the help of the Bush Administration. Therein lies just one more difference between a Republican Administration as opposed to a Democratic Administration. If Bush had held BP accountable at the time, we could have avoided what happened in the Gulf.
ReplyDelete“The first blow-out occurred on a BP rig in the Caspian Sea off the coast of Baku, Azerbaijan, in September 2008. BP was able to conceal such an extraordinary event with the help of the ruling regime of Azerbaijan, other oil companies and, our investigators learned, the Bush Administration.”

Not surprising but I doubt it would have lifted any eyebrows here even if the Bush admin ha not have helped cover it up. The Caspain sea is virtually a world away from us here-- it is interesting that you mentioned Baku as that was whee big oil got its start as I recently shared with you
