Germany's Evonik Industries plant fire has disrupted the supply of nylon 12

If you are like me, you probably thought that there was only one type of nylon. Well as it turns out there are several different types of nylon. And the fire that broke out late last month in Marl, Germany has disrupted the world's supply of one type in particular.

The type that was affected is known as nylon 12. And of course all types of nylon are derived from oil. It was the dupont corporation who brought the first nylon to market near the end of World War II.

As you see the fabric was invented by the duponts for use in parachutes etc. In fact, George Herbert Walker Bush was shot down over the Pacific ocean during that war. And nylon had not been adopted yet when he was shot down so we have on thing to either blame or thank for his successful 'bail out'-- and that thing is cannabis. That is right the parachute which saved his life was made from cannabis. So like I said, we either have this product to thank for saving his life, or to blame it on, because if it were not for cannabis, his son, George W Bush would not exist!

Of course the parachute was manufactured by war time growing of said cannabis. But that is not the only thing which was made from cannabis which helped to save his life. You see the ropes that were common place from the early days of shipping until the 1950's were all made from cannabis. And as it turns out the rope that they threw him was also made from cannabis.

As an aside to this story my family on my grandmother's side came from this very region of Germany. And their family name comes from this town in Marl, Germany-- because you see they were Marlmans. And another aside to this story marl means 'clay' in the German language.

But now back to this story about this fire in Marl, Germany-- it has made the world on a short supply of nylon 12-- which is a crucial component of cars made today. So, the auto industry is hurting from this plant fire in Germany.
