As most of you know I am no fan of things produced in China. This is just one of the many reasons why-- they are very bad for the environment!
While China has had a tremendous growth in renewable energy sources in recent years-- solar power has been tripled in the last year, and wind and hydro are not far behind their solar endeavors.
However China continues construction on power stations that are made by coal. Something like a new coal based power station comes online every two to three days (this is the last I heard about their coal power stations). And this puts them on top of the world when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions. In fact China will soon be responsible for half of the worlds CO2 emissions!
Apart from being an obvious threat against the fight on global warming, coal power plants also possess a serious health threat by polluting the air. These power plants are akin to power plants which were built here in the 50's. They are just downright nasty in the way of pollutants they put out!
In 2009, China surpassed the United States when it comes to investing in renewable energy. It is clear that this growth will not decline anytime soon. As well the massive amounts of climate gases in the atmosphere that China is responsible for is also not expected to decline in the near future. Putting a cap on China's energy production from traditional sources is a crucial factor in fighting global warming.
For those of you who wish to read more about this here is the story this article is based upon. And here is the story in turn which that story is based upon. It appears as if the Chinese are going to put a 'clean coal' powerhouse online sometime this year. It will be an IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) unit and I have worked on one of these in my time as an electrician.
I will do my best to bring you stories about up and coming technology in the world of energy. I will also bring you the utmost information on stories which have an impact on our environment here on planet Earth. Please be sure to like my blog folks, otherwise I have no way of knowing whether you like it or not.
