India's Ludhiana-- the world's most polluted city

I recently read this article on the Huffington Post's website. I should first tell everyone that Ludhiana is on the Pakistan border and is very much industrialized as India goes. And it becomes very evident very early on in this article. Coal has been said in many circles to have advanced us (the USA) and every modern society in the world today. It may well be having the same affect on India and China, but at what cost. Smog, global warming, and everything that comes with it. When will we as a people realize that we must change or the world is going to exact its revenge on us?

Now I know that we in the United States have some technology to combat these things which are detrimental to the environment. But even better yet Europe has had more stringent environmental laws for longer than we in the US have had ours. Europe has invested in such technology. That is why we (in the US) can no longer forged a turbine rotor for a powerhouse and have to rely on the Europeans to do it for us. Now keep in mind that they have had more stringent laws than the US since time and memorial. I have researched this a little bit and it seems as though our manufacturers decided not to upgrade their facilities after World War II, whereas Europe was bombed back into the stone age. And therefore what resulted was that they built newer, cleaner facilities than we had state side. A perfect example of greed overtaking industries, and the result is it has crippled our manufacturing base, and we may never again be able to compete on a global level.
