North Carolina Uranium Enrichment Plant Approved By Nuclear Regulatory Commission

I believe said facility is relying on the AVLIS style of enrichment. In this article it just states that such plant will be relying on classified technology using lasers. For those of you who do not know what AVLIS even is, it was technology that came out during the eighties and was said to also use lasers.

AVLIS is actually an acronym which stands for Atomic Vapor Laser Isotope Separation. I am very unsure of what this plant is actually going to employ, after all it is classified technology. But this plant, if it is in fact built, will be ran by General Electric and Hirachi, or another entity which they subcontract out to.

But what gets me about this factory to make atomic fuel for nuclear for powerhouses we certainly do not need another site to be contaminated by uranium and the various isotopes which it produces. We have three facilities currently in America which have contaminated by such-- Paducah, KY, Portsmouth, OH, and Oak Ridge, TN. Why do we need to go build yet another one? Would it not have been much smarter to put this facility at one of the aforementioned places?
