IBEW Local 1 installed solar panels at the new Busch Stadium

Yes you heard that correctly, the members of Local 1 and Sachs Electric teamed up to wire up one hundred solar panels at Busch Stadium. It is very good press coverage for the local and it will be benefitting our environment at the same time, so it is good press coverage for the owners of the stadium.

It is projected to produce 32,000 kw of energy each year. Of course this is dependent on the sun shining. This is a quote from Local 1's Business Manager, Gregory Booth, “Solar is just emerging in the St. Louis metro area, but our work shows that the IBEW is on the cutting edge of renewables”.

This project involved two arrays. The arrays are totally self functioning. And it is believed that this will bring considerable cost savings to the operators of the park.

Joe Abernathy, vice president of stadium operations, said in a statement just recently, "This is all part of the St. Louis Cardinals’ commitment to green its game. Since the stadium opened in 2006, we’ve been able to cut our energy use by 20 percent."

As I find myself saying here all too often, only time will tell how this works out for both the park and the Local. But I must honestly say I hope it works out great for both of them! Busch stadium has now gone green with the help of IBEW local 1.
