Solar Trust of America files for bankruptcy protection

Solar Trust of America has filed for bankruptcy protection. The company is owned 70% owned subsidiary of Germany’s already-bankrupt Solar Millennium. This spells nothing but bad news for the American solar industry.

This all puts the 1,000-MW Blythe Solar Project in the spotlight; as it may or mat not be completed at this time. This project was originally conceived as a concentrating solar power (CSP), but last August they had changed their plans to make the first 500 MW out of photovoltaics instead.

The question now is will anyone step in to take over what was billed as the world’s largest solar project. In an interview with Reuters News Service, Blythe City Manager David Lane sounded optimistic.
