They also have a bunch of think tanks that they single handedly finance as well. Groups such as ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), the Cato Institute, the Manhattan Institute, and the Americans for Prosperity are ALL funded by the Koch brothers (as well as many others).
Charles and David Koch are plutocrats, as this article states, which have come from central casting and are oil and gas billionaires. But be sure that is not the only business that these brothers are mixed up in. In fact, one of the reasons why gas prices are so high at the pumps right now is because this dynamic duo have been squandering all of the petroleum products that they can in a vast resevoirs which they have constructed in near their Wichita, Kansas base if you will.
These brothers do not oppose big government at all-- they just oppose government of ANY kind. They are so far out there that their sitting virtually next to atheist Ayn Rand; you know the lady who supported Ronald Reagan and his beliefs in making our government smaller, and actually served as an advisor to the same, and was actually present for Alan Greenspan's swearing in ceremony. Sadly I could not locate a video of this fact, which means that I must have seen it while watching Frontline's documentary The Warning. Here is a link to that show if anyone is interested in watching it The Warning
In that film they lay the blame for the 2008 market collapse, on the people who deserve it such as Ronald Reagan, Ayn Rand, Alan Greenspan, and all of the other free marketeers out there. Additionally they credit Brooksley Borne for trying to warn us about the impending market collapse almost ten years to the day before it happened. That is a fact, she tried to warn us about in 1998, but she was laughed off by the Republicans who were in charge of congress at the time as well as Greenspan himself!
Now to be fair, Clinton himself was complicit in said cover-up. As within weeks of Borne's testimony he demanded her resignation. As the film said this was the Go-Go Ninety's and after all no one wanted to stop that in the markets.
What is much worse than Clinton and Greenspan ridiculing Borne is the fact that Greenspan had to step in and bail out some of the largest corporations in America, like Proctor and Gamble-- who had gotten burned by a series of derivative swaps back then. And all of this coincided with the Russian economy which was going through some very rough times back then.
By the way the Koch brothers head up about the largest privately held business in America. With profits over $100 billion each year they can lay claim to this prize. They are some long time Libertarians and their donations to such causes make it very apparent.
But all of what they have done has slowly came out through the press. But now, the activist filmmaker Robert Greenwald has produced the film Koch Brothers Exposed. Now I doubt that this film actually contains anything which I am not aware of, but maybe it will serve the larger purpose of exposing them to the American populous.
