India's Yamuna river is the world's most polluted river

Near New Delhi they are increasingly having to deal with the pollution of the Yamuna River. You see this river is used for irrigation water. And unfortunately it is used to irrigate many vegetable crops near New Delhi, India. And what is so bad about this is that this water is specifically polluted by such heavy metal pollutants like lead, cadmium, and nickel. Now the vegetables are turning up with certain dangerous amounts of these chemicals in them.

As one could figure out, the Indian government has done absolutely nothing to monitor the levels of these toxic chemicals in their food supply. One vendor featured in this Youtube video simply explains to the Al Jazerra journalist that the farmer simply supplies him with his wares. They have very laxed laws and do not have the luxury of having an equivalent FDA as we have here in America.

But this river has also polluted the groundwater near New Delhi, India. So any clean up effort should start with the river, then the groundwater. And if I had my way about it the government over there would ban the raising of any crops on the banks of the Yamuna River as well, to ensure the safety of the Indian people.

And this was just given to me the day that this article was published. It shows more detail in this movie but its given in native Indian language, but they provided closed captioning into English for anyone who wants to check it out to learn even more about the Yamuna River, and I would say a huge thank you to Rewati for sending this to me!

  1. River Water is getting polluted because of dumping of garbage, industrial waste, etc. In the age of mineral water bottle, a great drinking resource is being completely destroyed by few policy makers. Documentary "My Name is Palaru" talks about the same issue.
