EPA to impose first greenhouse gas limits on power plants

While the EPA is set to impose the new greenhouse gas emissions for boilers, etc. But something these new regulations do not spell out is how the operators of said powerhouses are supposed to meet these new regulations. What these new regulations are meant to do is limit the CO2 (carbon dioxide)

These new regulations will not have any effect on natural gas fired turbines and boilers. Natural gas fired boilers and turbines emit about 800-850 pounds of CO2 per megawatt hour, compared to the coal fired plants which bellow out on average 1,768 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt hour.

Of course all of this does not spell out how much CO2 is emitted for the manufacturing of alternative energy sources. I have no doubt that making photovoltaics and wind turbines is quite an energy intensive process. But the thing about it is that the development of all of these alternative energy sources their (wind and solar) carbon footprint is a whole lot smaller than either gas fired or coal fired generation facilities. If you wish to read more about the new EPA regulations you can do so here.

Industry spokesmen have gone on record saying that this will effectively kill any projects proposed for building any new coal fired powerhouses. I hope and pray that none of them opt to go with carbon sequestration, as such is an untested technology. There is nothing that says putting it in the ground is any better as putting it in the air. I would have to say sequestration should undergo much more testing before being implemented.
