San Onofre lets radioactive waste escape

THE NRC (nuclear regulatory commission) has verified that the San Onofre Nuclear generating station suffered from a leak in some of its tubes. Now the thing which seems rather fishy to me is that these pipes were relatively new in nature. Which leads me to question where these tubes were manufactured. Were they just cheap Chinese shit, or were they good old American shit?

The NRC said Thursday that pressure tests showed three of the metal-alloy generator tubes had become so degraded that they could rupture under some circumstances. Such ruptures can require a plant to shut down, if spewing water reaches 150 gallons a day.

The California Independent System Operator, the agency in charge of California's wholesale power system is warning of potential black outs this summer if this conundrum is not taken care of. Really, you mean to tell me that our electric grid is actually going to experience some blackouts this summer? What is worse is that nothing can be done to avoid this consequence of these tubes going out.
