The 'natural' solution for transportation according to Argonne National Laboratories

According to Argonne National Laboratories, based out of Chicago, Illinois who say that natural gas is the 'natural' solution to our energy needs. Now what they said is that CNG (compressed natural gas) could go a long way in powering our cars. They in fact said that the US is not lacking for natural gas, and that CNG occupies less than 1% of the space that natural gas does under atmospheric pressure. As far as the environment is concerned they said more research need to be conducted before a decision could be made on its impact. According to them there are less than a 1,000 places that sell CNG, compared to 200,000 gas stations.

Am I crazy here or did we not already try to get this ball rolling in the 70's? I remember tractors that came out with either CNG or propane fuel. I also remember a few cars that came out equipped to run under this sort of fuel. In fact my buddy up in Canada, Dave Rock, was just this year working on such a police car which was given to him by the local township up there.

According to what I read on their website there was no mention of the fuel economy of such vehicles. Perhaps one of my readers could fill me in as to their economy. Furthermore they also said it could be used by city buses to meet the more stringent needs of the EPA.

What it all boils down to is this, they foresee a future where we have a various mix of automobiles-- petro based, electric, and CNG where we could begin to wean ourselves off of oil. And this not only applies to us, but developing nations such as India and China, not to mention the entire continent of Africa.
