Windspire, by Mariah Power has come up with a turbine to meet the needs of someone who lives in an urban environment. First of all it does not have the common turbine blades which have all come to associate with wind turbines. The company says on its website that the turbine is suited to be used in rural, suburban, and some urban environments.
By doing away with the propeller which have become synonymous with wind turbines they have solved the problem most wind turbines have with noise. As well this has solved the problem that birds typically have with wind turbines. And it is only thirty feet tall which means it is below most zoning requirements. I wish they actually would have provided sound with their video so we could hear how quiet this thing really is.
